The Temporary Accommodation Service (TAS) activated on 17 October 2024 for the 4-6 October Otago flooding event. TAS is currently accepting registrations from displaced residents in Otago who need assistance finding temporary accommodation.
Our Matching and Placement Coordinators are working with affected households to understand their housing needs and identify temporary accommodation options.
There is a cost for TAS temporary accommodation that households would need to contribute to. TAS can assist households who may face difficulties covering this cost due to financial hardship or exceptional circumstances. If you have insurance for your home we encourage you to reach out to your insurer in the first instance to discuss any cover you may have for accommodation while you home is being repaired.
Register your details with us and a temporary accommodation team member will call you within 5 working days to discuss what solution will work for you. If you are currently staying with friends or whānau and think you may need to use the service in the coming weeks or months, we recommend you register with the service now.
If you need additional support with your residential insurance claims, TAS work alongside the New Zealand Claims Resolution Service who provide free, independent advice on the claims process.
